What is artificial intelligence?

Artificial intelligence refers to the application of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to think like humans and imitate their actions. The term may also be applied to any other machine that exhibits its traits associated with a human mind such as learning and problem-solving.

When most of the people hear the term artificial intelligence, the first thing that comes to their mind is robots. Artificial intelligence is based on the principle of human intelligence that can be defined in a way that a machine can easily imitate  it and execute tasks, from the most simple to those that are even more complex. The goals of artificial intelligence include learning, reasoning,problem solving and perception.

As technology advances, previous benchmarks that defined artificial intelligence become out-dated. For example, machines that calculate basic functions of recognizing text through optimal character recognition is no longer considered to embody artificial intelligence, since this function is now taken for granted as an inherent computer function.

AI is continuously evolving to benefit many different industries. Machines are wired using a cross-disciplinary approach based in mathematics, computer science, linguistics, psychology, and many more.

Applications of Artificial Intelligence ( AI )

First of all, AI has significant use in healthcare. Companies are trying to develop technologies for quick diagnosis. Artificial Intelligence would efficiently operate on patients without human supervision. Such technological surgeries are already taking place.

Artificial Intelligence in business would significantly save time and effort. There is an application of robotic automation to human business tasks. Furthermore, Machine learning algorithms help much better in serving customers. Chabot’s provide immediate response and service to the customers.

AI can certainly make education more efficient. AI technology can discover the needs of students. Then it can also adapt according to their needs. AI tutors can provide help while studying to students. Also, AI can automate grading which results in saving a lot of time.

According to experts, the future of the world seems to be dominated by Artificial Intelligence. And the time is assumed to be not far when almost every aspect of our life involves AI assistance in some way or the other.

Experts believe that AI in future will be able to make human life much easier by providing a solution to almost all challenges. Types of Artificial Intelligence

1. The first types of AI are those machines which can react to certain situations, but these machines don’t have any sort of memory and hence cannot learn or use past experience. Computer chess games are a simple example of this first type of AI.
2. The second types of AI are those machines which are capable of using past memory to form future ones. An excellent example of this second type of AI is self-driving cars.
3. The third type of AI at present only exists in theory, and as per the imagination, it will be able to have humane emotions like beliefs, desires, opinions, intentions, etc.
4. The most sophisticated form of AI if ever comes to exist would be this fourth type of AI. This fourth type of AI machine will be able to have a sense of self-awareness, emotions and consciousness. If this type of AI ever comes to exist, then it would be a real revolution

Bad Effects In Future

If there is a fair side there will be a negative side also. Even though artificial intelligence is having many advantageous applications there are so many risky disadvantages also.

At a more basic level, the use of artificial intelligence in everyday tasks might produce laziness on the part of humans.  The awareness that the machines have intelligence will make human being lazy. They will be forcefully done by the machines Humans have an extraordinary ability to think, analyse, and use judgment.  If artificial intelligence is used for interpreting, then the human mind and its capabilities might go waste.

Scientific Films today represents the developments that can happen in the future. The most of the scientific films on artificial intelligence represents the negative side of artificial intelligence. For example if we take film ‘I ROBOT’, it represents a robot going mad against society and becoming a terror to the humanity. There are many Hollywood films representing the same idea. Films like ‘TERMINATOR’ also represent the robots with artificial intelligence going mad against humanity.

Applications of artificial intelligence with nanotechnology in military field have many positive advantages. It develops a perfect defensive shield against any attacks. However, it has a danger side also. With the help of artificial intelligence and nanotechnology man is able to develop very powerful and destructive weapons. In Hollywood films ‘G.I. JOE’, the weapons made by the application of nanotechnology and artificial intelligence is shown.

If we give intelligence to machines, they will be able to utilize it in its maximum capabilities. And machines with intelligence will become more intelligent than its creators. So, at the same time there may always be a chance of humanity being under the control of machines.

In future there may be more types of robots with artificial intelligence. Applications of artificial intelligence in military field will give rise to more sophisticate and user friendly warfare’s. By the invention of artificial intelligence, scientists will be able to prove that human intelligence is purely mechanical and can be duplicated. If this happens, it would break man’s view of himself as a unique being. The future artificially intelligent machines can become even more intelligent than humans. Hence there will be a situation of man vs. machines like we see in scientific fiction films.

Computers are more capable of producing accurate results. So, they will potentially replace humans in jobs that are better suited for them.  This could mean that the workplace will no longer be man’s domain.  Unemployment rates could go up.  Humans could soon lose their ground as dominant creature.  Most critical of possibilities may be a complete destruction of the human race

Hence, by the fast developments in the areas of artificial intelligence and robotics may push earth to a critical state. Even now the wastes of computer parts and other electronic devices are causing serious damage to our nature and earth. In future our planet Earth may turn from being black from green due to the pollution that can happen by the development of artificial intelligence.

Technology is neither good nor bad. Artificial Intelligence is a field in which so many researches are going on. Artificial Intelligence is the subfield of computer science concerned with understanding the nature of intelligence and constructing computer systems capable of intelligent action. Even though, humans are having intelligence they are not able to use it to the maximum extent. Machines will be able to use 100% of its intelligence if we give them intelligence. It is an advantage as well as a disadvantage. We depend on machines for almost every application in life. Machines are now a part of our life and are used commonly. So, we must know more about machines and should be aware of our future. Artificial Intelligence cannot be bad or good. But makes a difference in the way we utilize it.
